Programme Description

This programme is designed to meet the need of Ghana for the greater number of middle level construction technologists to facilitate the country’s industrialization programmes and the goal of self-reliance. In order to pursue the main goal, the following objectives will be addressed.

• Provision of facilities for further training and development in technology and supervisory role of senior secondary school graduates and others through strengthening of knowledge, skills and attitudes for the building and construction industry.

• Development of understanding of the important contribution of science and technology to the construction industry and socio-economic development.

Entry Requirements

a. SSSCE/WASSCE with passes in Core English Language, and Core Mathematics and Integrated Science plus three (3) elective passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Engineering Science, Building Construction, Woodwork, Geography and Economics with an aggregate not exceeding 24 from six subjects.

Or

b. Three (3) G.C.E “O” Level credits including English Language, Mathematics, Technical Drawing and a Science subject preferably Physics or Chemistry and Three (3) G.C.E “A” Level passes in Mathematics and any two (2) of the following: Physics, Chemistry, Economics and Geography plus a pass in General paper

Or

c. Construction Technicians Course Part I in addition to the requirements in A.

d. Final Technicians Certificate Holders

Holders of CTC II (Old) or CTC III (New) Certificate with passes in all the seven subjects/courses (4 written papers and 3 project works)

Or

Holders of Ordinary Technician Diploma certificate with passes in all subjects and Two (2) GCE “O” Level credits or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics or Two (2) SSSCE/WASSCE passes in Core English Language and Mathematics. Must pass a departmental interview.

e. Mature Applications

Must be at least 25 years old.

Must have Three (3) G.C.E “O” Level credits including English Language and Mathematics OR Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including Core English Language and Core Mathematics.

Basic Building Qualification.

i. Must have Three (3) years Industrial Experience (a letter from employer is required)

ii. Must pass a written examination and an interview.

Duration

full-time classes for three years.
