The Department of Interior Design and Materials Technology (IDMT) is among the three (3) departments within the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment (FBNE) of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU). It was borne out of the then Furniture Unit of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) established in 1952.
Following the winding up of diploma programmes in the Universities due to the upgrading of Polytechnics into tertiary status, Kumasi Technical University, (then Kumasi Polytechnic) through the Department of Estate Management was given the mandate to run a Higher National Diploma awarding programme in Estate Management in the
The Building Technology Department; currently under the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment, was established in 1954. The Department has been engaged in the training of Construction Technicians and Building Technologists for the fast-growing Ghanaian Construction and other related industries.
